What does it mean to be a HemaCare Hero?
Did you know that your blood donation can contribute to medical breakthroughs?
Our donors help leading scientists take their research to the next level – enabling the development of therapeutics that can give hope to patients with cancer, diabetes, and other acute and life-threatening conditions. From giving a few hours of your time, to becoming a life-long dedicated donor, people of all ages, genders, and backgrounds are making a huge contribution to creating healthier lives and futures for patients in need.
The cells that are collected from your blood donation can be used in medical research by scientists around the world.
Some key areas of research include oncology, vaccine development, transplant and regenerative biology, and much more. Immune cells from your donation are particularly important, they include peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs), T-cells, B-cells, NK-cells, monocytes, and dendritic cells. Cancer, autoimmune disorders, and infectious diseases are all areas where your blood donation is critical.
The development of new therapies for these diseases, and many others, isn’t possible without continuous blood donations from HemaCare Heroes.
